FED:Schools, former PMs and rabbits abound
Prime Minister JULIA GILLARD has defended the government's economic credentials in
the wake of a damaging report into Labor's schools stimulus program.
A taskforce examining the problem-plagued Building the Education Revolution has found
costs were inflated by up to 12 per cent.
But the prime minister .. who was education minister when the BER was rolled out ..
is standing by her decision to invest 16.2 billion dollars in school halls .. libraries
and upgrades.
Ms GILLARD says she made a judgment about saving the country from recession by investing
in schools .. and that she would make it again today.
She's welcomed the taskforce's scrutiny but notes the report found just 2.7 per cent
of schools had valid complaints .. and its overall view that the program is delivering
much-needed infrastructure .. while achieving the primary goal of economic activity.
