NT: Fischer s Uluru appeal could hurt tourism: warning

DARWIN, Jan 15 AAP - Tourism to Uluru could suffer as a result of acting Prime Minister's
Tim Fischer plea this week for visitors not to climb the rock, the head of the area's Tourism
Association said today.
Mr Fischer said this week he regretted climbing the rock in the 1960s and urged visitors to
respect the wishes of Aboriginal traditional owners not to climb it.
But today the general manager of the Central Australian Regional Tourism Association, Mike
Gunn, said that most of the almost 350,000 people in 1997 …
