Vic: More than 17,000 weapons seized in state's courts in a year
More than 17,000 weapons have reportedly been seized in Victorian courts in a year.
The Herald Sun says the weapons, including guns, knives, crossbows and metal bars, sparked a joint police-Justice Department security crackdown.
The paper says the crackdown included consideration of X-ray machines for all magistratescourts, distress buttons in courtrooms and chambers and dangerous prisoners giving videoevidence from court cells.
It says unnamed senior court officers say suburban courts average six violent incidentsa week with more than 300 weapons confiscated each week in the County and Magistratescourts alone.
